MASTERMIND™ History: Who is Behind the Board Game Cover?The original cover of the classic MASTERMIND™ board game has a story all its own. In 1972, MASTERMIND arranged a photo shoot for the board game cover. The photo staff had found a female college student from The University of Leicester strolling with friends and thought she’d fit the bill. She gladly accepted their offer. Her name was Cecilia Fung. The original male model failed to show, so an unknown gentleman who owned a chain of hairdressing salons by the name of Bill Woodward was asked to step in. He graciously agreed. MASTERMIND Algorithm: The Secret RevealedAccording to Britannica, an algorithm is described as “a procedure that produces the answer to a question or the solution to a problem in a finite number of steps”. Manipulation of lists (searching for, inserting and removing items) can be done very efficiently by using algorithms. MASTERMIND™ is a study in algorithmic complexity that serves as a math algorithm example…although most players simply view it as challenging fun. Dr. Michael T. Goodrich is a Chancellor’s Professor at the University of California, Irvine, where he is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science.
